Bur Oak Pottery produces one-of-a-kind pottery creations inspired by the work of the 19th Century English Arts and Crafts potters, the Martin Brothers. Best known and collected for their ãWally Birdsä, the Martin Brothers Pottery created a vast array of unique pieces. Founded in 2002 by Ed Klein and his wife Laura, Bur Oak starts each piece with a thrown stoneware vase before hand sculpting the simple shapes into complex creations, spending hours giving each piece its own personality. Once the first step in their painstaking process is complete, the sculptures are fired in a wood fired kiln using salt glazing techniques that give each work its authentic unique colors. The wood firing process takes 15 hours and requires constant supervision. Ed then completes many of the pieces by turning wooden bases.
